Nations call for oversight & bans on SRM/SAI
A Growing Global Movement for Oversight and Bans on Solar Geoengineering.
From nations across Africa to voices in India and the broader Global South, a powerful international coalition is demanding strict oversight—and outright bans—on solar geoengineering and weather manipulation technologies.
African ministers, through the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), have reaffirmed their strong rejection of solar radiation modification. India and other nations echo these calls amid growing concerns.
Over 630 academics from 65 countries have signed the Solar Geoengineering Non-Use Agreement (NUA), highlighting unacceptable risks including catastrophic “termination shock,” the lack of safety testing, and dangerous geopolitical tensions. These leaders emphasize that such technologies cannot be governed fairly and risk distracting from real emissions reductions.
Reclaim Our Skies stands with this movement for transparency, consent, and protection of our skies.
