Legislation to Prohibit Geoengineering & Weather Modification
Across the United States, a growing legislative movement is rising to prohibit geoengineering and weather modification and defend our natural skies.
Three states have already passed strong laws: Tennessee led the way in 2024, Florida followed with SB 56 in 2025, and Louisiana recently enacted a key amendment that explicitly bans the intentional release or dispersion of any chemical, substance, or apparatus into the atmosphere—including by the burning of fuel in aircraft engines—for the purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity.
In the most recent session, more than 30 states introduced similar legislation, with even more expected in the upcoming session. These state-level victories deserve our full support, because they not only bring critical public awareness and concrete, enforceable law to the geoengineering conversation but also create powerful precedents that can be further amended, strengthened, and leveraged in multiple ways for years to come.
At the federal level, U.S. Representative Greg Steube has introduced the Air Quality Act, which would establish a uniform nationwide prohibition on these activities along with robust enforcement and penalties.
The momentum is real—contact your state legislators today and stand with these efforts to protect our skies for future generations.
